The first distribution from the Dione L Schmidt Fund went to Barretts Elementary School to help fund the flexible-seating classroom concept they are piloting in a special 4th grade class this year. Flexible seating classrooms have many benefits, including enhanced learning experiences and improved performance. Nick and Molly, both fourth graders at Barretts, presented their plan for a flexible-seating classroom layout during their Spark presentation on February 15, 2018. The students measured the space, researched multi-use spaces and furniture, took a trip with their teacher to a local furniture store, surveyed other students in their class, and developed an implementation plan.
Special thanks to Mrs. Waters and Barretts Elementary for evolving the classroom and involving the kids in the process. Thanks to all who donated to the fund for helping Dione contribute to it.
